When the building was first opened as the Mayflower Post House in 1970, it was one of the city’s tallest buildings.

It took 18 months to build at a cost of £700,000 and was constructed to mark the 350th anniversary of the Pilgrim Fathers’ departure from the Barbican. The Herald called it “the finest hotel site in Europe” at the time.

in 2017 the building is torn down and now lies a vacant plot
